Montgomery boasts a sophisticated art community. The Montgomery Museum of Fine Art houses an extensive collection of 19th and 20th century paintings and sculptures. It is the setting for Alabama’s first interactive fine arts gallery for children. SAC’s Gallery, founded by the Montgomery Society of Arts and Crafts, showcases the work of local artists. Green Garden Gallery is the design center for nationally recognized artist, Barbara Gallagher.

Montgomery’s pride and joy, the internationally acclaimed Alabama Shakespeare Festival, is the sixth largest Shakespeare Festival in the world and the only American theatre invited to fly the flag of England’s Royal Shakespeare Company. The $21.5 million facility houses two theatres, production shops, and rehearsal halls. In addition to Shakespeare productions, the theater sponsors 400 world-class contemporary and classic productions throughout the year.
