Lee High School Reviews

I graduated from Lee this year, and it was like home. We were literally a fami-Lee. The teachers care so much for their students. Being a college freshmen, I believe they prepared me for the journey of life ahead. If I had the chance to do it all over again I would.

I just transferred into Lee this year, and it's ok. I have yet to adjust to the insanely large student body and facility. Hopefully, I'll grow to like it more.

I am currently a senior at Robert E. Lee High School. I do not agree with the person who wrote the review saying we do not accept newcomers. We are a happy family and acdept any willing to accept us. I also disagree with the fact that our electives are boring because I ahve enjoyed all the electives I have taken. Yes, we have only a limited amount of advanced clases but out pricipal and facility are doing the best they can to gey us the things that are best for us.

Lee High School is not a bad school. I just transferred from and I really miss the school. Lee High has some of the best teachers who really care about their students education. It just lacked parent involvement.

I am a graduate of Lee and am very proud to say I have to disagree with some of the reviews on here. I think the majority of the faculty were very involved with students. You must understand that Lee's student population is that of 2,000 to 2,500 or more a year. The DOD student must understand that the programs such as sports must be set in motion in spring due to training and season schedules in keeping with the the statewide program not just the school. Clubs and extracurricular activities that are very involved are often course related and several are not. Lee is the best public highschool in the city compared to all the others.

I've hosted many international exchange students who attended Lee for a semester or for an academic year. Most of them just loved the school. Any problems seemed to be related to the school's trying to do more than is possible with current funding levels. Most students have part-time jobs and this also seems to take away from campus life, as kids are tired during school and are busy after school with their jobs rather than school activities, volunteer service, or socializing with other kids. The problems at Lee are not easily solved because the tax base is quite low in Alabama and parents generally don't support the schools beyond what the taxes provide. Just an opinion -- but it's based on many years of contact with Lee. I'm a taxpayer and an active member of the community.

I transferred to Lee just before 12th grade. Before Lee, I was on the dance team, a class officer, ran track, an active member of my choir, my youth group, our new student welcoming club and maintained a 3.75 GPA. I found the student body closed and unaccepting of newcomers. Even the teachers lacked interest. Fall extracurricular activities were closed to me because teams had been chosen the previous spring, allowing no room for new students. Clubs at Lee meet twice a semester during class hours, taking time away from education and not allowing sufficient time to accomplish the club s objectives. Academically, the school offered no 5th year language classes; the highest science and math were Physics and Pre-Calculus. I found the electives unimaginative and uninteresting. Of the three schools I attended; in Nebraska, DoDDS and Lee; the quality of the education and extracurricular activities of Lee were severely inferior.

Robert E. Lee is one of the greatest schools in Alabama, or in the entire country. Its academic and athletic excellence has been displayed on numerous occasions throughout its 50-year history, and all one has to do is observe our Hall of Fame of distinguished graduates to believe it. My entire family graduated from Lee, as I did. I am now a teacher at Robert E. Lee and have been amazed at the stability of the school environment over the course of time. In 50 years, there have only been 7 principals; 8 coaches; 3 choral directors; 5 band directors; 3 activities directors; and so on. That, and the fact that so many of us are Lee graduates that returned 'home' to work at the school, contribute to a spirited and loving environment for the inner-city students we serve.

I am a parent of a child who attended Lee for a few months, at which time I pulled him out of Lee. That was the worst excuse for an academic institution! The faculty, administration, & other idiots in charge of that place were the worst I have every had to deal with in my life! I would never send my child to public school in montgomery ever again!

My son attended Lee high since the 11th grade when we moved to Montgomery from Millbrook, AL. I am very disappointed in the teachers/administrative staff's lack of communication with parents at this school. The district needs to step up and get involved and ensure that teachers and staff communicate with parents regarding issues with their children before it becomes a huge problem and they decide to expel or suspend.
